Oakland Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks after fracturing his thumb in Oakland’s 4-1 loss versus the New York Yankees on Thursday night.

Reddick sustained the injury in the 7th inning of the game when he tried to steal second base. His left hand got caught in Starlin Castro‘s spike, and according to MLB.com, it appeared Reddick also took a blow to the head from Castro’s spike.

“Frustrating isn’t even the right word,” Reddick said following the game on Thursday night. “I’m ticked off more than anything. I was having a great season and now this. Something so simple can be so damaging.”

Reddick blasted 5th home run of the season last night to give the Athletics their lone run of the night. Reddick said he had the green light to steal second base in the 7th inning which led to the injury.

“I had the green light at that point. I was trying to help the club win a game,” Reddick said. “We were down a run. Unfortunately, those things happen.”

Athletics manager Bob Melvin is listing Reddick as out indefinitely, while Reddick says he could be out 4-6 weeks after he visits a hand specialist today.

Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle lists Andrew Lambo and Jake Smolinski as possible candaties to replace Reddick on the 25-man roster.

The 29-year-old Reddick is batting, .322/.394/.466 with 5 home runs and 18 runs batted in so far this season for Oakland.
