Blue Jays Place P Aaron Sanchez on 10-Day Disabled List

Another day, another injury for the Toronto Blue Jays.

The team announced today that starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez has been placed on the 10-day disabled list due to a blister that is currently present on the middle finger of his throwing hand. In a corresponding roster move, left-handed pitcher Matt Dermody has been added to the active roster after being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo.

Per reports, the blister has been bothering Sanchez since spring training, and was even an issue for the right-hander towards the end of last season and into the postseason. Sanchez, who lead the American League in earned run average last season, was roughed up by the Orioles yesterday at Rogers Centere, surrendering 3 home runs and 7 hits.

Sanchez will join superstar third base Josh Donaldson on the disabled list, who is nursing a calf injury currently that has also been a lingering issue for the 2015 American League MVP. Sanchez and Donaldson could soon be joined by left-handed pitcher J.A. Happ on the disabled list tomorrow, as he exited his start today with elbow soreness.

Happ will undergo a MRI tomorrow in Toronto to determine his fat, which could range from a day-to-day situation, or another situation that will cause him to miss at least two starts.

“Last pitch of the fourth inning I felt kind of a pull, a tug in my elbow,” Happ said following the game, per ESPN. “Then I went back out there for the fifth and it got progressively worse.”

Collectively for the season, Sanchez is 0-1 with a 4.38 earned run average. His career track record shows that will improve once he is able to get 100% healthy, as he has a career 24-11 record with a 2.92 earned run average.
