The Atlanta Braves have officially fired manager Fredi Gonzalez after the team’s 9-28 start through 37 games in 2016.

Atlanta lost 8-5 to the Pittsburgh Pirates last night, and after the loss, the Braves now have 8 total home runs all season. 20 MLB players have more home runs individually this season than the Braves do as a team.

This is one of the worst starts in franchise history for the Braves, yet they are only a game back of not being the worst team in baseball.

Brian Snitker, who is coming from the Braves’ Triple-A team, will serve as Atlanta’s manager on a interim basis for the remainder of the 2016 season. The 60-year-old Snitker served as the Braves’ third base coach from 2006-2013 after being the team’s bullpen coach in 1985 and 1988-1990.

Gonzalez, who was hired by the Braves in 2011 to replace hall of fame manager Bobby Cox after serving as the manager in Miami, went 434-413 with the Braves to improve his overall Major League managerial record to 710-692, good enough for a sub .500 win percentage.

While the Braves made it clear they were rebuilding with trading away players like Jason Heyward, Craig Kimbrel, Justin Upton, Andrelton Simmons and Shelby Miller, it seems like the team didn’t expect to end up being this bad to start the year.

Per MLB.com, the Braves have two top tweny prospects in Dansby Swanson and Sean Newcomb to build around for future years. It also appears that the Braves will be very active on the international free agent market, as the team will try to kickstart the next era in franchise history off with a bang.
