Brett Favre Makes Retirement Day at Lambeau Field Official

The Green Bay Packers are finally retiring Brett Favre’s number and inducting him into the Packers Hall of fame. Now sure, Brett Favre has retired and then un-retired a couple of times, but has not played a NFL snap since 2010. Favre was almost a Packer for his entire NFL career. Until, after the 2007 NFC Championship game between the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers, Favre told the world he was retiring. Favre threw a interception during the championship game, which was his last play as a Packer.

As you can see in the interview, Favre was emotional announcing his retirement. On July 2nd, 2008 it was reported that Brett Favre was interested in un-retiring and returning to the Packers. Packers GM Ted Thompson was committed to Aaron Rodgers becoming the teams new quarterback, so if Favre wanted to comeback, he needed to do it with another team. That team, was the New York Jets.

After his stint with the Jets, Favre joined the Minnesota Vikings, a long time rival of the Packers. This resulted in many fans getting upset at Favre. Favre threw 44 touchdowns and 26 interceptions in 2 years in Minnesota.

Favre then announced his retirement from the NFL in January 2nd, 2011.

While he has received calls about teams interested in him coming back Favre hasn’t shown interest in returning. Meaning, its finally time for Favre to make things right in Green Bay.

It was officially announced that Brett Favre will return to Lambeau Field in 2015. Favre posted the following message on his official website.

“I’m pleased to announce that I will be returning to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2015 for induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and retirement of my jersey. It was a tremendous honor to play 16 years for the Green Bay Packers. Now to have my name placed among others such as Starr, Hornung, Kramer, Taylor, Lambeau, Nitschke, Lombardi, Davis, White and Hutson is a special honor that I share with all of my teammates and coaches, and that would not have been possible but for the foresight of Ron Wolf, the greatest GM In the history of the NFL. I’m truly looking forward to celebrating and sharing this special moment with all of the great fans of the Green Bay Packers. Go Packers!”

The man, the myth, the legend is finally getting his number retired by the Packers.
