After the Brewers unloaded their former ace Yovani Gallardo, many people thought the Brewers could potentially make a run at a pitcher like James Shields. However, according to Brewers general manger Doug Melvin, the Brewers are not interested in making a run at Big Game James, as they have not even reached out to Shields’ agent.

Even if the Brewers add a starter, “It won’t be a player of Shields caliber” said Melvin. Melvin also added that the Brewers are focusing on adding one to two pieces into their bullpen.

The Brewers projected bullpen is currently, Jonathan Broxton as the closer, followed by, Will Smith, Jeremy Jeffress, Brandon Kintzler, Rob Wooten, Jim Henderson, Tyler Thornburg, and Michael Blazek. The Brewers lost two lefties in their bullpen this off-season in Zach Duke, and, Tom Gorzelanny. Tyler Thornburg and Jim Henderson are also coming off of season ending injuries.

Francisco Rodriguez is still available, as he was the Brewers closer last year, and was phenomenal in the role.
