It could have been way worse for the Carolina Panthers QB. On Tuesday Afternoon near the Panthers’ stadium, Cam Newton was involved in a car crash. He suffered two fractures which happened in his lower back, similar to what happened Tony Romo just a week weeks back. Newton appears to be fine but will stay at a local area hospital over night.

The Carolina Panthers have released a statement on Newton’s injury:

“Further testing revealed that Cam Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back and no further internal injuries,”

“Right now we have thought about Cam’s well-being and we understand there was someone else in the other car who was injured,” the team said. “We just hope that they’re all OK.”

Newton has already missed one game this season and is doubtful to play Sunday versus the Buccaneers, so that would give the QB reins to Derek Anderson, who lead them to victory week 1 versus, ironically, the Buccaneers.

Newton has thrown for 2,812 yards with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with a 58.4 completion percentage so far this season.
