Earlier this year when long-time St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright ruptured his Achilles tendon many didn’t expect him to return in 2015, and many thought the Cardinals would struggles without him.
None of that has happened, or is going to happen, because the Cardinals activated Wainwright from the disabled list earlier today.
#STLCards have activated RHP Adam Wainwright from 60-day DL & placed RHP Carlos Martinez on 60-day DL. Waino last pitched in relief in '06

To clear room for Wainwright on the Cardinals active roster, the Cardinals placed pitcher Carlos Martinez on the 60-day disabled list with a shoulder injury. The Cardinals will use Wainwright as a relief pitcher for the rest of this season and the playoffs, which takes us back to 2006 when the Cardinals used Wainwright out of relief in the playoffs, helping them knock off the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series, and the Detroit Tigers in the World Series.
Wainwright is 2-1 on the season with a 1.44 earned run average and 18 strikeouts over 25 innings this year, and there a few tougher players in baseball than Adam Wainwright, as he has proven that to us yet again.
