Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in the Chiefs’ 21-13 win over the Oakland Raiders on Thursday night, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid informed the media following the game.

This is the second time in Johnson’s career that he has torn his Achilles, with that tear coming during the 2014 regular season.

“A sad deal there,” Reid said. “I felt a little bit of a letdown when it happened.”

Johnson threw his helmet down to the ground in frustration after the injury. He was helped off the field without putting any weight on his foot. He was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game.

The drive Johnson sustained the injury one happened to be the Raiders’ only drive with a touchdown tonight, a one yard run from running back Latavius Murray that was followed by a Sebastian Janikowski extra point.

The 34-year-old Johnson has spent his entire career with the Chiefs, and is tied with punter Dustin Colquitt for being the longest-tenured Kansas City player.

Johnson, a four-time Pro Bowler, will finish the season with 89 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, and three pass deflections. D.J. Alexander is Johnson’s main back-up.
