Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul is expected to demand a full five-year, maximum contract offer from the Clippers when he is eligible to become a free agent this off-season, per ESPN’s Zach Lowe.

Paul has a player option in his contract for the 2017-2018 season worth $24.2 million and he is expected to exercise his opt-out clause in-order to gain the most money possible with the NBA’s massive salary cap boom.

This summer will be critical for the Clippers, as Paul’s star teammate Blake Griffin will also have the option to opt-out of his contract before the start of free agency. Griffin will likely warrant more on the open market, as he is younger than Paul.

Clippers head coach/president of basketball operations Doc Rivers has no interest in starting a rebuild process, per Lowe. Los Angeles isn’t well-positioned for a rebuild as it is, with two first-round picks due to other teams over the course of the next few years,

The Clippers are currently 15-5 on the season after beating the Cavaliers by 19 tonight in Cleveland, and Paul helped lead the way to victory with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assists against his buddy LeBron James.

The 31-year-old Paul is averaging 17.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 8.8 assists this season. He has career averages of 18.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 9.9 assists per game.
