Jake Arrieta can’t, and won’t be stopped.
The Cubs ace was perfect through six innings tonight, and left the game after giving up one hit over seven innings, shutting out the Pirates putting him in-line for his MLB leading 21st win, helping solidify his case for National League Cy Young.
Arrieta became the first Cub to win 21 games since 1911 when Mordecai Brown won 21 games. Arrieta also homered for his second home run of the season, while Brown had homered two times during his career.
Arrieta is now 21-6 on the season with a 1.88 earned run average and 229 strikeouts. He has a 0.44 ERA since August 1st, and a 0.80 ERA since August 1st.
