To say Dallas Cowboys rookie quarterback Dak Prescott has looked amazing filling in for the injured veteran Tony Romo this season would be an understatement.

The 23-year-old Prescott is playing like a poised ten-year veteran in the absence of Romo, who is recovering from back surgery in August. He has yet to thrown an interception in his first 155 attempts, setting a new NFL record for a rookie.

Despite the success he has had filling in for Romo as the Cowboys’ starting quarterback, Prescott told ESPN’s Todd Archer that the Cowboys are still Romo’s team:

“This is Tony’s team,” Prescott said on Wednesday. “I knew that going into the situation. I think everybody knew that. I’m just trying to do the best I can to give my team a chance to win week in and week out.”

Dallas sits at 4-1 heading into their match-up against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon. Prescott and fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliot have supercharged Dallas, as they currently sit in first place in the NFC East ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, and Philadelphia Eagles.

Star wide receiver Dez Bryant has also missed the Cowboys’ last two games due to a knee injury, making what Prescott has done in the absence in Romo even more impressive.

It appears that everyone in the Cowboys organization believes that Romo will retain the starting job when he is legible to come off injured reserve. Romo will likely be activated from injured reserve following Dallas’ week seven bye week, which will send Prescott to the main back-up, and Mark Sanchez as the 3rd string quarterback.
