It appears the 2012 American League Cy Young Award winner David Price will be staying in the tough and competitive American League East, as the star pitcher has agreed to a massive seven-year $217 million deal with the Boston Red Sox, a record amount for any pitcher in Major League history.

The deal was $2 million more than the Dodgers gave their left-handed star, Clayton Kershaw. Price was the best starting pitcher on the market in our free agency rankings, and he sure was able to get paid like he was the best on the market.

The Red Sox had the 5th worst pitching staff in all of baseball last year, which ranked the worst in their division. A big reason why they struggled. Price’s 2.45 earned run average and 18-5 win-loss record with 225 strikeouts over 220.1 innings will certainly benefit that.

The Red Sox have not had a pitcher with 225 plus strikeouts since Jon Lester did in 2010. The Red Sox are 101-115 since the trade of Lester. Price can be the man that could help turn them right around back to their winning ways if all goes well.
