Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told the media on Tuesday not to rule out a potential 2016 return for outfielder Andre Ethier:
The 34-year-old Ethier went on the disabled list after breaking a bone in his right leg during a spring training game, and the injury has taken longer to heal then both Ethier and the Dodgers originally had anticipated when he first went on the 15-day disabled list.
Assuming Ethier will be activated off the disabled list and able to return to the Dodgers this year, Roberts says Ethier will have zero problem getting back into the swing of things:
“Andre is part of the nucleus of this club. He’s a proven, consistent performer. He’s been around,” Roberts said. “He’s missed out on a lot, and we’re looking forward to getting him back.”
Ethier is coming off a solid 2015 season where he had a .294/.366/.486 slash line with 14 homers and 53 RBIs in 142 regular season games for the Dodgers. Los Angles is currently working against the clock to get Ethier at-bats in the minors prior to returning, with the minor league season set to end soon.
“We’re definitely working against the calendar,” Roberts said. “We’re going to try to get him as many at-bats as we can before he gets here.”
The 34-year-old Ethier is a career .286/.359/.464 with 159 big flies and 682 RBIs in ten Major League seasons which have all been with the Dodgers.
