Dolphins Believe QB Ryan Tannehill Suffered Torn ACL vs. Cardinals

The Miami Dolphins believe that quarterback Ryan Tannehill suffered a torn left ACL in their 26-23 overtime win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon, according to Dolphins head coach Adam Gase.

” We don’t know anything official yet, but it doesn’t look good,” Gase said to the media following the game. “We’ve got to go to the next man up, just like every other position.”

Tannehill will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine if there is other damage in the left knee besides the fear ACL tear, per NFL Newtwork insiders Ian Rapoport and Courtney Fallon.

The next man up for the Dolphins that Gase referenced in his post-game comments was backup quarterback Matt Moore, who replaced the injured Tannehill in third quarter. Moore threw the ball five times in his stint on Sunday, his most pass attempts in a game since the 2013 season.

“I was thinking, ‘Man, I haven’t done this in a long time,’” Moore said.

Even after their win on Sunday, Miami is on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs. They have the same record as the sixth seeded Denver Broncos (8-5), but Denver holds the tiebreaker.

Running back Jay Ajayi will likely see his workload increased in the Dolphins’ final three games versus their divisional foes in the Jets, Bills, and Patriots.

The 28-year-old Tannehill was visibly emotional on the sideline after the injury, as he was seen on various videos that showed him receiving encouragement from his Dolphin teammates.

Assuming his 2016 season is indeed over, Tanehill will finish with 2,995 passing yards and 19 touchdowns. He was projected to finish the season with 21 touchdowns on the year before his three touchdown performance today.
