Appearing on Fox Sports Radio’s show with Chris Mannix and former NBA player Caron Butler on Sunday, Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade spoke on a variety of topics, including his future in the NBA.

Wade is still undecided as to whether or not he will play in 2018-2019 or retire, but he told Mannix and Butler that he would like to play for the Heat next season if he chooses not to retire:

Before Wade was traded back to the Heat by the Cleveland Cavaliers for a heavily-protected second-round draft pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, teammate Udonis Haslem, a very good friend of Wade’s told the Miami Herald that he and Wade talked about playing together again, and that the plan was for Wade to sign with the Heat this summer after finishing the year in Cleveland. Does the fact that Wade came back earlier than expected to Miami make his decision easier? That part remains unknown.

If Wade in-fact does decide to hang it up, all will feel right that he was able to suit up in a Heat uniform again and have some memorable moments in front of Miami home crowds. On February 27 against the Philadelphia 76ers, Wade put up a season-high 27 points to propel Miami to a 102-101 victory. In the game, Wade scored 15 of his 27 in the 4th quarter, and hit the go-ahead jump shot with 5.9 seconds remaining.

Then on April 3 in the Heat’s 101-98 win over the Atlanta Hawks, Wade reached 5,000 career assists as a Heat player, making him the 9th player in NBA history to record at least 20,000 points and 5,000 assists with one team, joining Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, John Havlicek, Oscar Robertson, Larry Bird, and Jerry West.

‘Father Prime’, which is Wade’s newest nickname, even gave the Heat a thrilling playoff performance as well. Playing against the 76ers again on April 16, Wade lead the Heat over the 76ers in Game 2 with 28 points in the team’s 113-103 win, which ended Philadelphia’s 17-game win-streak.

The bottom line is Wade brought a lot of life to the Heat once again, and was arguably the team’s best player in that five game showdown with Philadelphia in the first-round. It just felt right again for Wade, but would running it back for another full-season feel right?

In 21 games with the Heat last season, Wade averaged 12.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 40% from the field to bring his total season averages between Miami and Cleveland to 11.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game on 43% shooting. He also averaged 16.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game on 44% shooting in those five playoff games.
