Falcons CB Desmond Trufant to Undergo Season Ending Surgery

Atlanta Falcons star cornerback Desmond Trufant has a torn pectoral that will require surgery and more than likely end his 2016 season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Trufant will visit a doctor this week with the season-ending procedure being the most likely outcome, the Falcons said in a statement released to the public.

The 26-year-old Trufant suffered the injury while playing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during Week 9. He was inactive for the Falcons’ Week 10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the bye week.

Cornerback Jalen Collins will step in Trufant’s place if the injury is indeed season-ending.

“You really can’t try to replace a guy like Trufant,” said Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones. “But the way we’re structured here, it’s the next man up. Jalen is up now, and we just have to keep giving him those game-rep looks at practice so he can be ready to go in the game.”

Trufant, a Pro Bowler in 2015, has 31 total tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 4 pass deflections, and 1 interception this season.
