With Week 5 almost in the books, it’s about to time to look at this week’s top waiver wire pickups. We’re here to tell you which studs to pick up and which to let someone else make the mistake of picking up.

Pickup:

Blake Bortles, QB, Jaguars

Bortles had the 3rd best QB performance so far this week, torching Tampa Bay’s struggling secondary. Bortles has quietly been having a great season, and with the Jaguars’ struggles on defense, there’s no reason he should stop throwing.

Knile Davis and Charcandrick West, RBs, Chiefs

While both Jamaal Charles replacements are definitely worth pickups, I wouldn’t really be excited about either. West had trouble moving the chains when he was in action, and Knile Davis has fallen behind West on the depth chart. Still, get them before someone else does.

Thomas Rawls, RB, Seahawks

If he’s not already owned in your league, pick him up immediately. Even when Marshawn Lynch returns, Rawls has certainly inserted himself into the offense following his fantastic performance at Cincinnati.

Willie Snead, WR, Saints

Willie Snead caught 6 of his 11 target for 141 yards vs the Eagles. With Drew Brees lacking a big-time playmaker on offense this year, Willie Snead has become Brees’ favorite target.

Marquess Wilson, WR, Bears

Wilson had 85 yards and a TD, taking advantage of a receiving core missing Alshon Jeffrey and Eddie Royal. Wilson is definitely worth the pickup especially if the injuries persist, as he seems to have a great rapport with Cutler.

Gary Barnidge, TE, Browns

Gary Barnidge caught 8 of his 10 targets for 139 yards and a ridiculous TD, catching the ball between his legs. Barnidge has developed into Josh McCown’s favorite target, and with the lack of talent he has at receiver, Barnidge is certainly worth rostering.

Don’t Pickup:

Josh McCown, QB, Browns

McCown, who had thrown for 300 yards the previous two weeks, had his best game yet vs the Ravens, a 457 yard torching of Baltimore’s secondary. However, take a look at his next three matchups: Broncos, Rams, Cardinals. McCown’s upside is capsized because of this.

Jaelen Strong, WR, Texans

Strong caught two TDs on Thursday night, but those two TDs happened to be his only targets of the game. Especially if Nate Washington or Cecil Shorts return, Strong is not worth rostering.

Josh Huff, WR, Eagles

Huff broke out this week with 4 catches for 78 yards and a TD. Although Huff may get more looks now, he simply won’t be consistent enough for a roster spot.

Ty Montgomery, WR, Packers

Montgomery is still the 4th receiver in the pecking order, and his stats didn’t look great beyond the easy touchdown. Montgomery isn’t much of a starter.

Benjamin Watson, TE, Saints

Watson certainly has established a role within the Saints’ offense, but his performance is entirely touchdown-dependent. Not a guy you want to count on in fantasy.
