As we get deeper into the season, finding good pickups on the waiver wire becomes much tougher. It is still possible to find a good player, however, as long as you know which guys are legit and which guys aren’t. Here are 5 players to pick up for this week, and 5 others that you should let someone else add.

Pickup:

Blake Bortles, QB (JAX) 43% owned

If you’re still looking for that legit QB1, Bortles may actually be your guy. He’s scored the 4th most points total among QBs this year, with Carolina in Week 1 his only dud performance. Even if you have a great QB already, you should get Bortles so no one else can.

Christine Michael, RB (DAL) 38% owned

Michael hasn’t done anything as a Cowboy so far, but a few reasons to consider adding him: Lance Dunbar’s injury and Darren McFadden’s lethargic play has opened the door for Michael to play a big role. Also consider that Michael is Dallas’s most talented runner playing with one of the league’s best offensive lines. He has great RB2 potential.

James Starks, RB (GB) 19% owned

Sure, Eddie Lacy was hampered with an ankle injury, but Starks looked rather impressive vs San Diego, tallying 112 yards and a TD on 10 carries. Green Bay may decide to stick with their hot hand if Starks continues to produce, making him a low-risk, high-reward add. Keep in mind Starks is on bye this week.

Stefon Diggs, WR (MIN) 6% owned

With Charles Johnson hurting and Mike Wallace being inefficient as usual, Diggs has become Bridgewater’s best target. Diggs has gotten 9 and 10 targets respectively his last two games, so he’s definitely worth an add if you’re hurting at WR.

Marvin Jones, WR (CIN) 35% owned

Jones has been very inconsistent this year, but I think he’s worth an add as a matchup play. With AJ Green covered by impressive rookie Ronald Darby, Jones hauled in 9 of his 12 targets for 95 yards and a TD. Jones won’t perform like this every week, but he could make for a great start vs the Steelers’ weak secondary in week 8. (Bye Week 7)

Don’t Pickup:

Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB (NYJ) 12% owned

How the Redskins let Fitzpatrick look like a Pro Bowl QB is beyond me. Fitz probably won’t top his 26-point performance again this year, as the Jets will likely stick with their more consistent running game

Tennessee Running Backs

Antonio Andrews, Bishop Sankey, Dexter McCluster. Who will lead the pack next week? It seems like the three players alternate points between them. It’s hard to trust any of them as fantasy starters.

Albert Wilson, WR (KC) 0% Owned

Even if Jeremy Maclin misses time, Wilson should not be considered as an option with Alex Smith’s limitations and his lack of targets.

Lance Moore, WR (DET) 0% Owned

He’s had back-to-back double digit standard scoring games, however he’s still 3rd in the Lions pecking order and he simply isn’t receiving another targets to be a consistent producer

Benjamin Watson, TE (NO) 10% owned

Watson had a career game vs the Falcons’ beleaguered defense, but I doubt any other team would leave him that wide open again. Unless you’re in a deep league, Watson is not a viable fantasy starter.
