Gregg Popovich says Heat HC Erik Spoelstra is a’ hell of a coach’

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich’s praise doesn’t come easy, but when you earn his respect, he will call you out for it in a good way.

Another example of that was brought up today. Popovich’s Spurs are in Miami to take on the Heat. The Heat and Spurs of course met in the Finals back-to-back years with the Heat winning the first year, and the Spurs convincingly winning the next.

The Heat beating the Spurs in the Finals back in 2012-2013 remains the only Finals loss the Spurs have endured under Popovich, and while the Heat have taken a step back since LeBron James left Miami, Popovich has high remarks for the guy keeping the Heat alive most times, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra:

“He knows what he’s doing,” Popovich said on Spoelstra. “He’s a hell of a coach.”

The Heat sit at 29-23 on the year, and they will be 29-24 tonight after they face the Spurs going off the spread. However, Spoelstra has proven himself this year as a good coach by many people’s standard, and will probably be the Heat’s head coach for years to come.
