Jimmie Johnson received his first win of the young NASCAR season today at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It is Johnson’s 71st career win at Atlanta. With 13 laps remaining in the race, Johnson took what was his as he never looked back. Finishing behind him was Kevin Harvick, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Daytona 500 winner Joey Logano a Other notable drivers finishing places include Tony Stewart at 30, Danica Patrick at 16, and many others.
Jimmie Johnson spoke on his Atlanta win following the race:
“I knew through about two sections of corners that we were going to have an awesome day,” Jimmie Johnson said.
“I definitely think it gives you a sign of who’s going to be competitive,” said Johnson. “It takes the pressure off in some ways.”
Jimmie Johnson has put himself into great position once again to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup, which this time would be a 7th time he wins the cup, tying a record.
