Julio Jones Records 6th 300-Yard Receiving Game in NFL History vs. Panthers

The Carolina Panthers couldn’t cover Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones at all today, and that’s pretty much all you need to know.

Jones hauled in 12 passes for a whopping 300 receiving yards and one touchdown reception. It’s the 6th game in NFL history that a receiver has hauled in 300 receiving yards. Lions great Calvin Johnson was the last one to do it before Jones today, as he had 329 receiving yards against the Dallas Cowboys on October 27, 2013.

The 300 receiving yard game is also the new Falcons record for the most receiving yards in a game, topping the 259 yards he dropped on the Green Bay Packers last season on Monday Night Football in Green Bay.

Monster games from Jones and Matt Ryan lead the Falcons past the defending NFC Champion Panthers 48-33 to drop the Panthers to 1-3 with their only win coming against the San Francisco 49ers two weeks ago in Carolina. The Vikings completely shut down Carolina last week.

In addition to the third loss of the season, 2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton left the game and is being evaluated for a concussion. Derek Anderson replaced Newton in the game, as he completed 17 passes in 23 attempts for 172 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions on the day.

Falcons fans were chanting ” Julio, Julio” with just under four minutes to go in the game.

The 27-year-old Jones was held to just one catch for 16 yards on Monday Night Football versus the Saints despite the Falcons scoring 45 points as he was said to be battling a calf injury the week leading up to the game. It appears that calf injury is a thing of the past.

Jones now has 22 catches for 488 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns this season. Last season, Jones had the second-most receiving yards in NFL history with 1,871 yards on 136 catches. Calvin Johnson holds the record with 1,964 yards which happened in 2012.
