If James opted into the final year of his contract, he would’ve had made 21.5 million. LeBron is also waiting on seeing if Kevin Love re-signs with the Cavaliers or not before finalizing a new deal with the Cavaliers. Many around the NBA expected James to sign a one-year deal with the Cavaliers that includes a player option for the 2016-2017 season, which LeBron can opt out of and get a large deal when the salary cap goes up.
