The Chicago Cubs are back in the postseason for the first time since 2008. Led by guys like Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Starlin Castro and others like tonight’s starter, Jake Arrieta, the Cubs could spoil the Pirates season with a star studded performance by them and Arrieta.
The Pirates are now a familiar team in the MLB Playoffs, led by Andrew McCutchen, the Pirates are looking to go to the NLDS for the second time in their three consecutive playoff appearances. Continue below for updates on the game throughout the night.

After a lead-off single by Dexter Fowler, Kyle Schwarber singles in Fowler from second base after he stole second, giving the Cubs a 1-0 lead.
End of the 1st:

After giving up a hit to Andrew McCutchen, Jake Arrieta strikes out Starling Marte to get the Cubs out of the 1st inning up one still.
Middle of the 2nd:

Jake Arrieta counters Gerrit Cole’s 3-up-3-down inning with a 1-2-3 inning of his own.
Middle of the 3rd:

Dexter Fowler singles again, and Kyle Schwarber this time around hits a 449 foot blast to straightaway right field to give Arrieta a three-run lead, which could mean the end for the Pirates already.
End of the 3rd:

Jake Arrieta went 3-up-3-down last inning, so he had to top that by striking out the side. What’s next, striking the side out on nine pitches?

Wow. I am shocked. Jake Arrieta is pretty good at this baseball thing, I guess.
PITCHING CHANGE Antonio Bastardo in for the Pirates, Gerrit Cole out.

Quite the eventful inning to say the least. Tony Watson hit Jake Arrieta with the pitch, and the Cubs didn’t like it one bit, leading to the benches clearly. Nonetheless, the Pirates get out of the inning without a run allowed.

Pirates: 0
Jake Arrieta gets another double play ball to get the Cubs out of the mini-jam.

Mark Melancon does what he has been doing all season long: getting the Pirates through the 9th without a run being allowed.
