Both the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees exceeded expectations this year, both using a different style baseball team. The Yankees are getting younger, but the Astros are powered by young stars while the Yankees rely on their veterans more.

They are taking each other on the American League Wild Card Game tonight, so stick with us as we update you on the score throughout the game.

Middle of the 1st:

Astros: 0

Yankees: Due up

Masahiro Tanaka pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning that included two punch outs.

End of the 1st:

Astros: 0

Yankees: 0

Chris Young reaches base on the walk, but Carlos Beltran and Alex Rodriguez are un-able to drive him in.

Middle of the 2nd:

Astros: 1

Yankees: 0

Colby Rasmus took the first pitch he saw from Tanaka and sent it way out of here. Tanaka stranded the bases loaded after giving up two walks in the inning, by getting Jose Altuve to ground out to third baseman Chase Headley.

End of the 2nd:

Astros: 1

Yankees: 0

Greg Bird singles, but nothing else transpired for the Yankees in the 2nd.

Middle of the 3rd:

Astros: 1

Yankees: 0

George Springer lead off the inning with a double but a bare-handed play by Chase Headley let the Yankees escape the double without giving up a run.

End of the 3rd:

Astros: 1

Yankees: 0

Dallas Keuchel gets his first 1-2-3 inning of the night while striking out a pair of Yankees.

Middle of the 4th:

Astros: 2

Yankees: 0

Just like Colby Rasmus, Carlos Gomez took the very first pitch he saw from Tanaka and put it into the outfield stands. Tanaka was able to get out of the 4th without surrendering another run, but is now over 70 pitches.

End of the 4th:

Astros: 2

Yankees: 0

Dallas Keuchel is still rolling right along. He has retired the last seven Yankees batters.

Middle of the 5th:

Astros: 2

Yankees: 0

Masahiro Tanaka bounces back nicely after struggling in the 4th with a 1-2-3 inning in the 5th, staying under eight-five pitches. He is in-line for a quality start if he gets through the six without two runs being scored.

End of the 5th:

Astros: 2

Yankees: 0

Dallas Keuchel now has retired the last ten Yankees hitters. I am beginning to wonder if he will give up another base runner.

*** PITCHING CHANGE *** Justin Wilson in for the Yankees, Masahiro Tanaka out.

Middle of the 6th:

Astros: 2

Yankees: 0

The Astros are un-able to get anything started versus the left-handed Wilson.

End of the 6th:

Astros: 2

Yankees: 0

The Yankees finally get base runners, but Alex Rodriguez was un-able to get a hit off of Keuchel yet again. Keuchel is through six shutout innings in the Bronx.

*** PITCHING CHANGE*** Dellin Betances in for the Yankees, Justin Wilson out.

Middle of the 7th:

Astros: 3

Yankees: 0

Dellin Betances comes in for the Yankees, allows a walk and a RBI single to Jose Altuve, giving the Astros another run to pat onto their lead.

*** PITCHING CHANGE*** Tony Sipp in for the Astros, Dallas Keuchel out.

End of the 7th:

Astros: 3

Yankees: 0

Tony Sipp gets a big strike out of Greg Bird to pad his way to keeping the shutout in-tact.

Middle of the 8th

Astros: 3

Yankees: 0

Dellin Betances strikes outside for the Yankees, getting Carlos Correa, Colby Rasmus, and Evan Gattis all to whiff.

*** PITCHING CHANGE*** Will Harris in for the Astros, Tony Sipp out.

End of the 8th:

Astros: 3

Yankees: 0

It’s the same story for the Yankees yet again tonight, another 3-up-3-down inning for the Astros.

PITCHING CHANGE Andrew Miller in for the Yankees, Dellin Betances out.

Middle of the 9th:

Astros: 3

Yankees: 0

Yankees closer Andrew Miller works a scoreless inning.

*** PITCHING CHANGE*** Luke Gregerson in for the Astros, Will Harris out.

FINAL:

Astros: 3

Yankees: 0

W: Keuchel

L: Tanaka

S: Gregerson

The Houston Astros will face the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS, beginning this Thursday.
