Ichiro Suzuki will be part of Major League baseball for at least one more year.

The Miami Marlins announced earlier today that they’ve decided to exercise their $2 million team contract option on Suzuki for the 2017 season. According to MLB sources, the Marlins also added in a $2 million option for the 2018 season.

Ichiro will turn 43 years of age this month, will serve as the Marlins fourth outfielder behind Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna, and Giancarlo Stanton once again in 2017. Suzuki is coming off a productive year at the plate where he batted .291/.354/.376 with 1 homer and 22 RBIs and picked up MLB hit number 3,000.

Suzuki became the 39th player in Major League history to reach the 3,000 hit plateau last season, while also becoming the second player in MLB history to get his 3,000th hit with a triple. He and hall of fame infielder Paul Molitor are the duo in that club.

He will begin the 2017 season 25th on the all-time hit list. He had 95 total hits last year, which means he will move up to 20th all-time if he reaches the 95 hit mark again this season. Suzuki became the MLB’s active hitter leader in August when Alex Rodriguez officially retired from baseball.
