Yet another NBA team has cut ties with Anthony Bennett, who was the first overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

The Brooklyn Nets announced today that they have requested waivers on the 23-year-old Bennett, after he appeared in 23 games for Brooklyn, and posted averages of 5.0 points, and 3.4 rebounds per game.

With Brooklyn now having one open roster spot, ESPN’s Marc Stein is reporting that the team will add power forward Quincy Acy on a ten-day contract. Acy is currently playing with the Texas Legends of the NBA Development League.

The 26-year-old Acy has appeared in six NBA games this season after signing with the Dallas Mavericks over the summer. Dallas waived Acy in November, and then Acy was acquired by the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the Development League before they traded him to the Legends.

For Bennett, his departure from Brooklyn marks the third time in the last 16 months that he has been waived by a NBA team. The Cleveland Cavaliers drafted Bennett number one in 2013, and he played one season for Cleveland before they traded him and Andrew Wiggins to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Love.

Minnesota then waived Bennett in September 2015, and then Bennett signed with his hometown Toronto Raptors five days later. In Toronto, Bennett became the first former number one overall pick to play in the Development League. Toronto would waive him in March 2016, with questions being asked about his love for the game.

It’s likely that Bennett’s brief NBA career is already over, but there is of course hope on Bennett’s side that a rebuilding team will at least take a ten-day chance on him. Still, it’s likely that a rebuilding team will first look at their options in the Development League before signing Bennett.

Bennett has career averages of 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in 151 games.
