The Baltimore Orioles re-signed slugging 1st baseman Chris Davis to a seven-year $161 million deal, the deal will of course run until 2023, but that’s just for the years on the deal:

Chris Davis contract structure: $17m annual salary 2016-2022. Annual payments $3.5m 2023-32, then $1.4m 2033-37. No interest on deferrals.

The money that will be spread out from 2023 until 2037 will be a total of $42 million. Davis reportedly turned down a $150 million offer previously to remain with the Orioles, so the club clearly decided to tack on $11 million more, and to pay him $42 to likely not be on the team post-2023.

Davis slashed .262/.361./.562 with 47 round-trippers and 117 runs batted in for the Orioles last year. Davis was 1st in the American League in home runs and 2nd in the AL with 117 runs batted in.
