During the cold months of Winter where baseball is almost an afterthought, the San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox agreed to a trade that would send infielder Will Middlebrooks to the Padres in-exchange for Ryan Hanigan. The move was minor compared to all the other moves the Padres made, as they hoped Middlebrooks could strengthen their infield.
That hasn’t worked out very well for them, just like everything this year. Middlebrooks was optioned to Triple-A El Paso due to his struggles.
Padres option Will Middlebrooks (.212/.241/.361) to Triple A. He started 4 games at shortstop for them, mostly 3B.
