Pelicans Star Anthony Davis Records 59 Point 20 Rebound Game vs. Pistons

Anthony Davis put the Pelicans on his back today in one of the best performances the NBA has seen in quite sometime.

Davis put up a career-high 59 points to go with 20 rebounds and 4 assists to help the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Detroit Pistons 111-106. Davis scored over half of the Pelicans points today, as the rest of his Pelicans teammates scored 52 total. Jrue Holiday was the 2nd-leading scorer with 20 off the bench.

The Pistons chose not to double team Davis during this game, and he was very happy they didn’t.

“I’m glad they didn’t,” Davis said.

Those 59 points are of course a season-high for any NBA player this season, and the most by a NBA player since LeBron James scored 61 for the Heat versus the Bobcats (now the Hornets) back on March 3rd, 2014.

Davis made 24 shots by himself in 34 attempts. Everyone else on the Pelicans was 17-52. This is the 3rd 50-20 game in the modern era, joining Shaquille O’Neal and Chris Webber as the only players to have that such stat line. O’Neal had 61 points and 23 rebounds while Webber had 51 and 26.

If the Brow scored one more point, he would’ve been just the 3rd player in NBA history to post a 60-20 game. But for now, O’Neal and Wilt Chamberlain will remain as the only two players to accomplish that feat.

In addition to all of that noted above, Davis became the second youngest player with a 50-20 game. Only Bob McAdoo was younger.

Even if you’re not a Pelicans fan, you have to enjoy this game by Davis. It’s not everyday that you a performance as special as this, and we were able to land a highlight video from GD’s Highlights on YouTube:

What an epic performance.
