The Tampa Bay Rays have been way to quiet so far this Winter, and one of the glaring holes on their roster comes at shortstop, where Brad Miller is projected to start. The Rays, however are looking to change that, per Chris Cotillo of SB Nation:
Source: Rays do have interest in Ian Desmond, but parting with draft pick considered "huge obstacle" in getting deal done.

Desmond slashed .233/.290/.384 with 19 long balls and 62 runs batted in over the course of 156 games for the Nationals in 2015. Desmond would certainly give them some pop out of the shortstop spot, but the deal seems unlikely even then, because the Rays would have to give up their 1st round pick.
If Desmond and the Rays do put pen to paper, it’d be hard to see Desmond getting a multi-year deal.

What about his Defense? 27 errors seems kind of important.
