Report: Blue Jays Uninterested in Re-Signing Jose Bautista

The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly uninterested in re-signing outfielder Jose Bautista after he rejected their qualifying offer, per Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports:

The Jays do not seem at all interested in (Jose) Bautista beyond the draft pick they’ll be getting if/when he signs elsewhere.

Toronto’s free agent signing of designated hitter Kendrys Morales to a three-year, $33 million deal became official on Thursday, and Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said that the signing of Morales didn’t impact Bautista’s fate whatsoever. It apparently has.

The now 36-year-old Bautista is reportedly seeking a big contract, which can scare teams like the Blue Jays off due to other players needing to receive good chunks of money. Toronto is still in the mix to re-sign Edwin Encarnacion.

Bautista appeared in 116 games for the Blue Jays in 2016, and batted .234/.366/.452 with 22 homers and 69 RBIs. The New York Mets are among the teams interested in the three-time Sliver Slugger Award winner.
