As the Cleveland Browns continue to reshape their entire roster, wide receiver Corey Coleman could become expendable.
Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland has the details:
John Dorsey met with Danny Shelton’s agent in Indianapolis; his departure not a surprise here. Don’t be shocked if Corey Coleman’s name surfaces in trade talks either. #Browns

In the first part of this Tweet, Ruiter is referring to the trade made by the Browns on Saturday that sent defensive tackle Danny Shelton and a 2018 fifth-round pick to the New England Patriots for a 2018 third-round pick. That trade was the fourth made by general manager John Rosey this off-season, and according to Ruiter’s tweet, a trade of Coleman could add to the trade total in the coming days.
In one of the trades this off-season, the Browns acquired star wide receiver Jarvis Landry from the Miami Dolphins to give Tyrod Taylor (another trade acquisition) or whoever throws the football in 2018 a top-shelf talent at receiver to fling the pigskin too. On paper, a wide receiving core of Landry, Josh Gordon, and Coleman seems like a core with a lot of potential, but Coleman has also had problems staying healthy since he entered the league in 2016, playing in just 19 games. That could potentially be the Browns thinking behind the trade rumors.
However, just because the Browns are looking to deal Coleman potentially doesn’t mean there will be any takers. ESPN’s Tony Grossi says he’s heard there’s absolutely no demand from any team to acquire Coleman via trade:
“What this means for Corey Coleman is unclear. I’ve heard there is absolutely no demand for Coleman in trade and he probably will return, after all. I still expect Dorsey to troll for a receiver, or two, in the middle rounds of the draft.”
If Coleman does indeed stay with the team, he will certainly have all the opportunities in the world to turn things around for the better, because even when he has been healthy and on the field, the results just haven’t been there. In the final game of the Browns 0-16 season last year against the Pittsburgh Steelers, it’s likely the Browns would’ve have won the game had Coleman hauled in a pass from quarterback DeShone Kizer in the end zone during the 4th quarter. Kizer of course has already been shipped out of town by the Browns to the Green Bay Packers for Damarious Randall, but Coleman sat as locker for an estimated 45 minutes following that game.
In 9 games in 2017, Coleman had 23 catches for 305 yards and 2 touchdowns, bring his career totals to 56 catches, 718 yards, and 5 touchdowns.
