The Cleveland Browns have reportedly received trade interest in wide receiver Josh Gordon, but Cleveland is also reportedly uninterested in trading Gordon, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
Gordon, who is currently suspended for the first four games of the 2016 regular season, told Tony Grossi of ESPN that he would like to stay with the Browns:
“Cleveland is my team,” Gordon said. “That’s where I want to be, everything like that. That’s not even in the ballpark for me. I’m not sure how that works.”
During Gordon’s NFL career, the Browns and Gordon have been through a lot. The speedy wide receiver hasn’t played in a NFL game since December 2014 due to multiple suspensions for violating the league’s substance policy.
For the Browns to just give up on Gordon now after they’ve hanged onto through thick and thin would be a questionable move to say the least.
Cleveland believes that first year head coach Hue Jackson will help do dividends for Gordon and the remainder of the Browns roster, as during Gordon’s tenure the coaching has been questionable.
“I think it works out perfectly then for me,” he said. “Mr. (Jimmy)Haslam, the organization, Coach Jackson, I think the world of those guys, this city, this organization. They’re showing me the love and respect back to me by allowing me to stay here up to this point.
“I expect to move forward with that. I’m excited about it. This is where I want to be and I’m happy to be with Cleveland.”
While Gordon has had trouble staying on the field due to issues off the field, his talent is undeniable. In 2013, Gordon lead the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards. He has played five games in the league since that All-Pro worthy season.
When he returns from suspension, Gordon is expected to once again emerge as Cleveland’s top wide receiver with quarterback Robert Griffin III under the helm. Gordon will be apart of an improved receiving core that features Corey Coleman and Terrelle Pryor.
For his career, the 24-year-old Gordon has hauled in 161 passes for 2,754 yards and 14 touchdowns.
