Ian Desmond is without a doubt one of the best free agents left on the open market, and we had him ranked as our number one shortstop entering the off-season as far as the 2015 free agent class.
Desmond, who spent 2015 with the Nationals, slashed .233/.290/.384 with 19 long balls and 62 runs batted in over the course of 156 games for the Nats, is being pursed by the San Diego Padres, according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.
The move would make perfect sense for the Padres as me and Morosi agree. The only shorstop listed on the Padres Major League Roster per MLB.com is Alexi Amarista, and the Padres infield could use some much needed power.
