The Justin Upton rumors are starting to heat up. The San Diego Padres were able to land Justin Upton in a deal with the Braves in the off-season, and it appears that they could be shipping him out with one-year left on his deal. The Baltimore Orioles were reportedly interested yesterday, and now the Pirates are joining the running, according to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports.
The Pirates will of course wait to see how severe Jordy Mercer’s injury is as Morosi mentioned. Mercer collided with Carlos Gomez in yesterday’s Pirates-Brewers game while Mercer was trying to turn a double play. Upton is batting .252 with 15 home runs and 49 runs batted in through 89 games with the Padres this season.
