Safety Bradley McDougald won’t be departing from the Seattle Seahawks like other members of the ‘Legion of Boom.’
Seattle has agreed to a three-year, $13.9 million contract extension with the versatile safety who became an essential part of the Seahawks’ defense following Kam Chancellor‘s season-ending neck injury. NFL Network was the first to report that the Seahawks and McDougald had an agreement in place.
McDougald took to Instagram on Monday to confirm the extension news:
Seattle and McDougald’s timing on the extension was also critical, as the news became public knowledge right before the start of the NFL’s legal tampering window for free agents ahead of the start of the league new year on Wednesday. That means McDougald would’ve been allowed to discuss contracts with other NFL teams had Seattle not acted quickly.
The Seahawks roster has already undergone major changes this off-season, with the releases of cornerbacks Richard Sherman, Jeremy Lane, and DeShawn Shead. The organization is also said to be listening to trade offers for star safety Earl Thomas, but it would take a lot of compensation to pry Thomas away.
McDougald appeared in all 16 games for the Seahawks in 2017, registering 75 total tackles and 4 pass deflections. The Seahawks inked him to a one-year, $1.8 million contract last off-season after the un-drafted free agent from Kansas spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
