For the fourth time this season, Texas Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo will head to the disabled list.

Choo is expected to miss the remainder of the 2016 season with a fractured left forearm, the same injury that cost Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos eight weeks in April.

The 34-year-old Choo left tonight’s Athletics-Rangers game after being hit by a Ross Detwiler fastball on his left wrist. Nomar Mazara replaced Choo in the game, who was batting first as the designated hitter for the night.

April 9th marked the first trip to the disabled list in 2016 for Choo with a strained right calf. He came off the disabled list on May 19th, and went back on two days later with a strained left hamstring.

Choo’s 3rd stint to the disabled list was due to lower back inflammation on July 20th, which he returned from on August 3rd. 12 days later, his 2016 season is likely over.

In 45 games this season, Choo batted .247/.369/.416 with 7 homers and 27 runs batted in. Texas’ trade deadline acquisitions in Carlos Beltran and Jonathan Lucroy well help lessen the blow of losing both Shin-Shoo Choo and Prince Fielder in the span of a couple of weeks.

The Rangers will likely recall top prospect Joey Gallo from Triple-A Round Rock to take Choo’s spot on the 25-man active roster. Gallo can play the outfield, as can Jurickson Profar to help the Rangers on defense without Choo’s presence.

After this season, Choo is still due $82 million from the Rangers, who will enter the 4th year of a seven-year, $130 million deal the Rangers and Choo agreed to on December 21, 2013.
