Mat Latos had himself a 2015 to forget, causing him to be without a job until today, as he and the Chicago White Sox have reportedly agreed to a one-year $3 million deal.
Latos had a 4.95 earned run average over 113 innings split between the Marlins, Dodgers, and Angels last year, which was surprising, considering Latos’ success from 2010-2014. The other thing that made teams reluctant to sign him was his reported issues in the club house.
Latos will compete for a spot in the White Sox rotation that features Chris Sale, Carlos Rodon, Jose Quintana, Erik Johnson, and John Danks.
On the southside of Chicago at U.S. Cellular Field, Latos will get a fresh start. While it isn’t a ‘pitcher friendly ballpark’ Latos will have a chance to possibly land himself a better deal from the White Sox or any other team next winter.
