Phoenix Suns general manager Ryan McDonough confirmed today that the team has yet to engage in contract extension talks with center Alex Len and guard Archie Goodwin:

“We want to see how it goes in training camp and preseason and then we’ll revisit it as a staff probably the last week or last 10 days of October,” McDonough said. “With players as young as those two guys are, obviously there’s some projection involved too, It’s not just what they are now but what they’re going to become over the next four or five years. With the players, it’s some risk tolerance too. You want to potentially take the bird in hand and have some security and maybe sacrifice a little money to have that security in case you don’t play well or something goes wrong?”

So far this off-season, 2013 draftees  C.J. McCollum and Giannis Antetokounmpo have received contract extensions. While Len and Goodwin are unlikely to receive the type of payout that McCollum and Antetokounmpo are getting, they are both two players who keep developing their game year in and year out.

Last year, Len averaged career highs in points, rebounds, and minutes per game while the 22-year-old Goodwin also averaged career highs in points, rebounds, and assists. Goodwin saw a higher role in 2015-2016 after injuries to Eric Bledsoe, Brandon Knight, and others.
