VIDEO: Brewers SS Orlando Arcia Launches First MLB Homer

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Orlando Arcia blasted his first Major League homer, a three-run shot off of Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jared Hughes in the 6th inning in Milwaukee’s 5-3 loss to the Pirates on Friday night.

The blast by Arcia came off the bat at 98 miles per hour, per Statcast, and traveled an estimated 408 feet to left-center field.

So far through 81 career at-bats, Arcia has struggled, batting .185/.267/.284 with the now one homer, 8 RBIs, and 3 stolen bases, but has made some steady progress this week after being in a 2-for-34 dry spell prior to a pinch hit double on Tuesday night.

Martin Maldonado, Arcia’s Brewers teammate, gave Arica a bit of a scouting report on Jared Hughes prior to his at-bat, and what he was looking for to hit his first homer:

“I was looking for a pitch I could drive, a pitch I could hit hard,” Arcia said. “Maldonado had told me to look for the sinker, look for it up, because he’ll leave it up a little bit. So I was just looking for one high, one I could drive, and I was able to get what I wanted.”

Hopefully for the Brewers and Arcia, this is the first of many homers. The 22-year-old Venezuelan came into 2016 as the Brewers top prospect, and earned the call to the big leagues in August after batting .267/.320/.403 with 8 homers, 53 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases at Triple-A Colorado Springs.
