VIDEO: Dirk Nowitzki Reaches 30,000 Career Points vs. Lakers

Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki now has something in common with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Wilt Chamberlain.

These are the only 6 players in NBA history to reach the 30,000 career points after Nowitzki hit his signature fadeaway jump shot over Los Angeles Lakers big Larry Nance Jr. in the Mavericks’ 122-111 win over the Lakers on Tuesday night.

Nowitzki hit that shot in the early stages of the second quarter to put the Mavericks ahead 42-30, and the Mavericks honored him with a video tribute following the next stoppage in-play. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Nowitzki’s teammates were the most emphatic about the moment.

Several other NBA players and legends reached out on social media to congratulate Nowitzki, as LeBron James, Bryant, Magic Johnson, and many others were among the crowd.

The 38-year-old Nowitzki, who will turn 39 this off-season, is averaging 13.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game this season. Nowitzki is already on record for saying he plans to play the 2017-2018 NBA season.
