WATCH: Dwyane Wade Becomes the 41st Player in NBA History to 20,000 Points

Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade is back at again in terms of making history.

In the 3rd quarter of the Heat’s 122-101 blowout of LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, Wade became the 41st player in NBA history to reach 20,000 career points and the 21st fastest player to the 20,000 mark in terms of games played.

Wade is the 10th active player (if you count Ray Allen) to reach the feat. He joins Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Tim Duncan, LeBron James, Dirk Nowitzki, and Kobe Bryant among those active. His teammate Joe Johnson is the next closest active player to 20,000.

“For me, the coolest thing is that I’ve been wearing this one jersey — and I got all 20,000 of those in a Miami Heat uniform,” Wade said. “I never came into the NBA thinking about 20,000 points or a lot of things I’ve accomplished. It’s all amazing being a part of the history of the game.”

As noted above, Wade joined the club while defeating his former teammate LeBron James. Here’s what James had to say on Wade making it to the mark:

“To be on the floor with my brother when he gets 20,000 points in his career is just a testimony to the type of guy he is, the type of professional he’s been,” James said. “It’s big time for the brotherhood.”

Wade dropped 24 points to help the Heat win their 40th game on the season while Josh Richardson added in 19 points. Goran Dragic and Joe Johnson both scored 18, while Hassan Whiteside had another double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

“I thank my teammates”, Wade said. The ones that are here and the ones who aren’t here. To score 20,000 points you have to take a lot of shots, and your teammates have to do a lot of things to allow those shots. It’s all amazing to be a part of the history of the game.”
