Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Jean Segura has been what most Brewer fans consider a disappointment so far, but I am here to tell you why he is just getting better. Back in 2012, when our Brewers traded for Segura, we sent away one of the fan favorites in Zack Greinke and it was tough for some fans to understand why. When 2013 rolled around, Segura was the Brewers everyday shortstop and became a member of the 2013 NL All Star team.
Unfortunately, since the 2013 All Star game, Jean Segura’s offense has quite frankly been terrible. He has 16 home runs and 44 runs batted in post 2013 All Star break. His defense has been great but the offense hasn’t. So why do I think this upcoming year Segura is able to change things around? Simple. First off, I give him a pass due to the fact his son died and we don’t know how much of an effect it had on his play yet.
My 2nd reason is, he started to slowly pick it up in the final months off the season and I think that will give him better confidence heading into 2015 spring training. My 3rd and final reason is a new hitting coach. There is clearly a reason Johnny Narron got fired and that’s because we watched one of the worst offenses in Brewers history.
We would always hear reports that Narron was working with Segura on a different approach. Well that clearly didn’t work so what will?
I predict Jean Segura will have a huge year for the Brewers giving them they offense they need to take it to the next level.
