The Miami Heat will be one of the biggest names thrown around superstar free agents. That’s in large part that the fact LeBron James joined them in 2010, also motivating more in more players to join the Heat cause they see a superstar join them. So that leads to the question? Which free agents should the Miami Heat target when the next big class of free agent comes out in 2016. Al Horford, Joe Johnson, Deron Williams, Chandler Parsons, Dirk Nowitzki, Andre Drummond, Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, Mike Conley, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, Terrence Ross, and Bradley Beal are all free agents in 2016. Let’s take a look at some players the Miami Heat should try to target.
Chandler Parsons

While Chandler Parsons has a player option for 2016, he will likely opt out of the contract like almost every player does to explore other options or, restructuring their contacts to help out a team. The Heat’s current small forward position includes, Luol Deng, Danny Granger, and James Ennis. Deng is a free agent in 2015, but has a player option to stay with the Heat for one more year. If that doesn’t happen, and depending how Luol Deng’s two years in Miami go, the Heat may want to look at Chandler Parsons. Parsons, who is age 26 is averaging 15.6 points, 5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in his year with the Mavericks.
Dwight Howard

Dwight Howard has a early termination option in his contact, which gives him the right to opt out of it at any current time. So its possible he could become a free agent before 2016, but regardless he should be a Heat free agent target. The Heat’s current situation at center is Chris Bosh, Chris Andersen, Hassan Whiteside, and Justin Hamilton. I know what you’re probably thinking, why target Dwight when you have Chris Bosh? If the Heat target Dwight and land him, the Heat would then be able to move Chris Bosh back to his natural position at power forward. It would also solve the Heat’s rebounding problem which has kept them near the bottom half in the league in rebounds per game the last few years. Yes, the Heat may need Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to take pay cuts to make this happen, but they have already before for LeBron James, so I am sure they would do it once again.
Anthony Davis

This is a bit of a stretch, but hey, anything is possible. It’s not just the fact that Davis would need a max contract, it is also the fact that he is a restricted free agent. A restricted free agent, is a free agent who you can only offer and offer sheet to. Once a team offers an offer sheet to the player, the team has 7 days to match the contract. I see the Pelicans matching no doubt about that. But if for some reason they won’t match it, then why not at least try an offer to him. Davis is averaging 23 and 10 right now and would certainly make Miami a top tier team once again.
Andre Drummond
Drummond is too, a restricted free agent and with the Pistons dumping Josh Smith’s salary, its likely the pistons will match, but Drummond would solve the Heat’s rebounding problem easily. As I said before, you could move Chris Bosh back to his original position. Drummond is one of the best rebounders and if not the best in the entire NBA.
Kevin Durant

The biggest name in the 2016 NBA free agency is Kevin Durant without question. I expect that Pat Riley will be aggressive and go after KD and maybe he can convince him just like he did to LeBron. Durant is similar to LeBron James so the Miami Heat could have the similar big 3 of Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant, and Chris Bosh.
Tony Wroten
I did not include Wroten in the top free agents, but I will tell you this, Dwyane Wade is getting old. It’s no secret and I’ve been watching Wroten a lot this year. He is already a beast and if we can give him an offer to play back up for a bit behind Wade, I am all for it. He is a restricted free agent in 2016, but you never know with the 76ers.
