Why the Jets Giving Geno Smith 1 More Year Isn’t an Awful Idea

As you probably know, Geno Smith has struggled in his first two seasons as an NFL quarterback. I am about to explain why the Jets might want to consider giving him one more year.

1. The NFL Draft

Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston are considered to be the 2 best Quarterbacks in this draft, and other than them there aren’t really any other eye popping Quarterbacks in this draft. Considering that the first 2 teams that will be picking in the draft (Buccaneers and Titans) both need Quarterbacks, don’t expect Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston to be on the board when the jets are on the clock with the 6th overall pick.

2. The QB market this off season

There isn’t supposed to be a solution to the jets Quarterback problem in Free Agency this year. The most notable Quarterbacks that are set to be free agents this year are: Christian Ponder, Mark Sanchez and Brian Hoyer. None of those guys are the answer for the Jets Quarterback troubles.

3.The Jets lack of talent

The Jets Quarterback play is certainly not their only problem. They lack play makers at the WR position, there offensive line has been very inconsistent over the past couple years. And their cornerbacks aren’t very good at all. So you can’t blame the Jets recent struggles all on Geno.

4. There isn’t really anything to lose next year

Indianapolis Colts v New York Jets

The Jets by any stretch of the imagination are not supposed to contend for a playoff spot next year, so why not play the season out and see if Geno can be a useful player?

5. Geno can still improve

New York Jets v Carolina Panthers

Geno is more talented than people think. The problem with Geno is that he isn’t good at reading defenses. If he can improve that part of his game I think he could be a good quarterback in this league. Oh, and don’t forget that he is capable of being mobile and being productive with his legs.
