Aroldis Chapman is on the move yet again via trade, and this time, the New York Yankees are trading him to the Chicago Cubs for three minor league prospects and right-handed pitcher Adam Warren.

New York will receive prospects Gleyber Torres, Billy McKinney, and Rashad Crawford in-exchange for Chapman, almost eight months after trading prospects to the Reds to land Chapman and pair him with Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller.

Now in Chicago, Chapman will take over as the closer. Hector Rondon will shift over in the set-up role for the 8th inning. The Yankees elected to trade Chapman after he decided against an extension, with Chapman wanting to test the free agency market this winter.

In 31/3 innings of work in 2016, Chapman has posted a 2.01 earned run average while converting 20 out of 21 saves and punching out 44 batters.

Chapman released the following statement on today’s transaction:

“I want to thank the New York Yankees for trusting and supporting me, and I wish nothing but the best for the Yankees organization and my former teammates,” Chapman said.

“I am excited about today’s trade and look forward to joining the Chicago Cubs and meeting my new teammates,” he said. “It is a privilege to wear the Cubs uniform and to play for the fans of Chicago.”

The Yankees are assigning Torres and Crawford to High-A Tampa while McKinney will head to Double-A. Adam Warren will join the team in Houston after he was traded by the Yankees in the off-season for former Cub infielder Starlin Castro.

This trade cleared up a weakness for the World Series favorite Cubs, and it will increase their odds to win it all without a doubt.
