Ryan Fitzpatrick wants more money, and the New York Jets aren’t meeting his standards. That is the major reason why nothing has happened with Fitzpatrick with free agency entering it’s second week.
Per Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, the Jets have offered Fitzpatrick a contract, but it sounds like the money is something you’d expect to see a back-up quarterback make.
Florio also notes that there might not be much happening with Fitzpatrick until the Colin Kaepernick situation in San Francisco 49ers pans out. The Jets, Broncos, and the Browns have all expressed interest in making a trade for the versatile quarterback.
The 33-year-old veteran quarterback had career highs in passing yards and touchdowns. 3,905 yards came through the air while he threw for 31 touchdowns in his first season with the Jets.
If the Jets get caught off guard and Fitzpatrick signs elsewhere, they will either have to turn to Geno Smith again, or give Bryce Petty a shot. They do have the assets to swing a trade for a quarterback, however.
