Five Players the Yankees Should Consider Trading for

Advertisements

The New York Yankees currently sit at 44-39 on the season, which is good enough for 1st place in the American League East. If you know anything about baseball, you know that the AL East is so tight that the last place Boston Red Sox are only out of first by 5 games. If you want to make the postseason for sure in the AL East, you’re going to have to make some moves at the trading deadline. Here are five players the Yankees may want to consider trading for.

#5 Yovani Gallardo

The Dallas Morning News

Yovani Gallardo’s scoreless inning streak ended at 33 1/3 innings during his last start, but that’s not the only thing good about Gallardo’s first season with the Rangers. Gallardo has a 2.67 earned run average is good enough for 7th in the American League and 16th in all of Major League Baseball. Sure, Gallardo doesn’t have the strikeout pitch like he used to before, but he would be a great add to the Yankees rotation that could possibly get CC Sabathia out of the rotation and into the bullpen

#4 Ben Zobrist

Ben Zobrist is a guy that can play anywhere in the infield and outfield. With Brendan Ryan being hurt for over 70 games this season, Zobrist could be a very nice guy to fit in for the Yankees where ever they need him. I’d imagine they’d use him at second base to help take Stephen Drew out of the lineup on select days when they can.

#3 Gerardo Parra

The Yankees outfield has been a revolving door this season due to injuries to Carlos Beltran and Jacoby Ellsbury. Gerardo Parra did a great job for the Brewers filling in for Khris Davis in left field, and can be the fourth outfielder the Yankees need, just like Parra was the Brewers fourth outfielder. The Brewers gave up two prospects to get Parra, so you’d think their asking price to the Yankees would be the same.

#2 Dan Haren

Having Dan Haren on the Yankees roster could be a luxury for the team. Haren can fill in for a starter if need be, and also give you quality innings out of the bullpen. The Miami Marlins asking price for Dan Haren I imagine can’t be too high as he has been fairly solid this year with a 3.34 earned run average with a 6-5 win-loss record and 76 strikeouts in 105 innings of work this season.

#1 Johnny Cueto

The Yankees along with other teams had scouts at Cueto’s last start last night, and they sure liked what they saw because Cueto threw a complete game shutout allowing just two hits and striking out 11 Nationals. Cueto’s .261 earned run average is the 8th best in the National League and the 14th best in Major League Baseball. Cueto is 10th in strikeouts with 111 in the National League, and 14th in all of Major League Baseball. Cueto would be the perfect guy to complement to Masahiro Tanaka, and the perfect guy to get the Yankees over the hump.
