James Ennis Showing he can be Part of the Heat’s Future

James Ennis was the 50th pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks who then traded Ennis to the Miami Heat. Ennis appeared on the Miami Heat summer league roster in 2013. The Heat tried to get Ennis to sign with their D-league affiliate the Sioux Falls Skyforce, but couldn’t strike a deal.

Ennis signed a deal in Australia with the Peth Wildcats for the 2013-2014 season. Ennis scored 25 points in his first game with the Wildcats and he kept up the success from there.

James Ennis finished 3rd in MVP voting in Australia averaging 21.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game  shooting 46.8% from the field. Ennis also was named team MVP for the Wildcats.

After his stint with the Wildcats, Ennis went to Puerto Rico were he only played 12 games after leaving for NBA workouts and the Summer League. Ennis also was apart of the Heat 2014 Summer League team and had big games for the Heat but one really stood out. Ennis scored 29 points against the Nets hitting 7 out of 8 3-pointers as well.

The Heat were impressed of what Ennis brought to the table so much, they signed him to a NBA deal on July 15th, 2014.

Ennis made his NBA debut against the Washington Wizards in the Heat’s first game of the 2014-2015 season and it is a game Ennis will never forget. With 8 minutes to go in the 4th and the Heat only up by 4 playing a great team, the Heat needed a spark to help them get to victory. One James Ennis did just that. Chris Bosh passed the ball to Mario Chalmers who then continued the fast break leading James Ennis when passing the ball, then, when Ennis got the ball, he ripped down a nasty dunk posterizing Rasual Butler.

Ennis is averaging 3.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game so far this year for the Heat, in just 13 minutes on average per game. But when Ennis gets minutes he is very dangerous. Just like he was in the Heat’s 100-84 win over the Celtics tonight as he finished with 16 points and 8 rebounds.

Ennis has shown off his crazy athleticism to so far this year, let’s check out some of this dudes dunks

If he hanged on the rim any longer, the basket may have came down!

You heard the announcers, Ennis stuffed it right down the chimney.

The praise for James Ennis isn’t just coming from me, its coming from others as well. Most notably, NBA legend Kevin Garnett of the Brooklyn Nets who had this to say about Ennis

“You have huge upside” and keep working.

If Ennis can play like the game he had against the Celtics for at least two times a month with the way his minutes are going, Ennis could make a larger impact for the Heat this season and beyond.
